Damp-Rating vs. Wet-Rating: What is the difference?

Wet-Rated Lighting Fixtures

• Fixtures to be installed indoors or outdoors in an area with direct exposure to water. These fixtures are made with waterproof seals to protect their internal components from moisture. 
• To be used in the following locations:
  • Outdoor locations in full exposure
  • Showers

Damp-Rated Lighting Fixtures

• Fixtures to be installed in places that have some contact with moisture, but not in areas with constant or direct exposure to water. These fixtures do not have the same full seal as wet-rated fixtures.
• To be used in the following location:
  • Covered patios or porches
  • Bathrooms
